FRESH TAKES FROM THE CEO: MY FAVORITES

Our Guest Favorites promotion is this month and is one of my personal favorites.  And that’s because so many of our guests favorites are mine as well, two in particular come to mind; the first is our Classic Greek Tossed Salad.  I grew up in the Chicago area and had many fantastic meals in the restaurants in the Greek Town area of Chicago.  My favorite was always the Greek Salad, even as a teenager I loved it.  As I traveled around other parts of the country in later years I would often try Greek Salads in other restaurants and always found they did not live up to my expectations.  Years later when we were adding this recipe to the Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes menu we were clear that we wanted a Greek Salad that was as authentic as possible and would not be doing some new twist on the classic recipe.  I can proudly say we have succeeded and I hope you enjoy this salad as much as I do.

The second recipe is our Cream of Broccoli soup.  I will tell you that while I was enjoying Greek Salads in Chicago, I was not eating a lot of broccoli.   And while that has changed and I do enjoy broccoli now (but it is still not my favorite vegetable), there is something about this soup and the flavor that I do like and every time I enjoy a bowl I feel great about myself.  The perfect solution to eating more broccoli for me is the Cream of Broccoli Soup we are serving this month.  It clearly has lots of broccoli, sometimes I add more from the salad bar, and is in a wonderful wholesome full-favored cream base.  I enjoy our soup with a couple of pieces of our Garlic Fococcia for a hearty meal.

I hope you are enjoying  your favorites this month as much as I am.  And I ‘d love to hear a little about why your favs are special to you.

Thanks for being our guests,

Michael Mack

  1. How long will you wait to establish a Sweet Tomatoes in Minneapolis or St. Paul, MN?
It’s true we have snow here. It makes us eat more veggies.
If you build it, I’ll bless it.

  2. Michael,
I would love to see more steamed vegetables on the menu. For many, as we age it is a bit easier to eat our veggies if they are steamed. How about adding them to the regular menu?
    Thanks,
    Joan

  3. Need a Sweet tomato in Port Charlotte, Fl 33952.
The nearest one is 45 minutes away.
There are a lot of people here who like Sweet Tomato, but won’t drive 45 minutes a couple times a week.
A Sweet Tomato would do very well here.
    Thank You

  4. When are you serving tomatoe soup with the grilled cheese for dipping. We haven’t seen it for awhile. It is the best!

  5. Rarely is the Greek salad served at the Alpharetta, GA location. It is my favorite salad as well and am disappointed when it is not being served. Try to influence this location to begin serving this salad on a continuous basis like the Caesar salad.

  6. Incompetent Manager Gabriel Cruz at the Souplantation Foothill Ranch, CA
My wife was recently discharged from the hospital and was looking for a healthy alternative for dinner. Upon arriving at the Souplantation we requested a Nutrition Guide to determine which menu items would align with her diet. We were told by the Manager Gabriel Cruz that the Nutrition Guide was not available (Incompetence #1 – Ensure the store is legally compliant at all times). Gabriel then asked us to wait at the counter while he looked for one in his office. After standing at the counter for 20 minutes we inquired with the cashier for the manager’s attention (Incompetence #2 – Make the customer stand in line for an extended period of time). He came back to us and told us he couldn’t print it from his computer. (Incompetence #3 – Technically ignorant) We then asked for his name, he replied “Gabriel Cruz” and his store number “999” (Incompetence #4 – Provided bogus store number. REALLY!!! “999” Makes me question if the manager’s name is really “Gabriel Cruz” or another bluff tactic) We then asked for a business card, his replied “I don’t have any” (Incompetence #5 – Running out of inventory). Besides the point of NOT being legally compliant, nor the competency of “Gabriel Cruz”, but at NO time was customer service a priority.

I fully expect Michael Mack, CEO to provide a competent reply and state how he plans to remedy this issue

  7. I really wish Classic Greek Salad could be one of the daily salads served. It’s the very best in your lineup. I cannot eat tomatoes due to a severe allergy. My store in Fullerton CA ALWAYS makes me a special batch of Greek Salad minus the tomatoes. They see me often during Greek Salad week!

  8. Mr. Mack
Thank you for the Super Sweet Senior deal recently established at your restaurants. My wife and I do like to eat dinner “early” and comne weekly to take advantage of this offer. All the selections are great and we look forward to our weekly outing.

  9. I really like a lot about Sweet Tomatoes, but the nearest one to me is over 125 miles away. By doing an online survey I’m supposed to get 15% off my next visit. The catch is that it has to be in the next 14 days. What is the likelihood that I’ll be back in this area 125 miles away from home in the next 14 days. You should do better. Either put a restaurant where I can get my 15% off or don’t put an expiration date on it. Think about it

  10. I love your greek salad and have misplaced the recipe. I was wondering if you could provide that to me again. Thank you!
Also, if the Lemon Lave Cake or Cream of Mushroom soup recipe is available I would love those as well. Thanks again!!

  11. MR. MACK, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO BUY ALL ORGANIC VEGETABLES AND FRUITS ? A BUSINESS THAT IS AWARE OF THE BEST FOOD FOR THEIR CLIENTS WILL STAY AHEAD OF THE CROWD. KEEP BEING NUMBER ONE, NOT ANOTHER PLACE TO EAT FRESH PRODUCE. ORGANIC FOOD IS IN DEMAND. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME OUT HERE.

  12. Many of your foods are naturally gluten free, but issues of handling create cross contamination making it impossible for me to eat at your Boynton Beach location. I used to eat at the Boca location with never a problem. The Boynton Beach location is close to my home so I have started to go there. On the last 2-3 times I have eaten there I have been as always totally only selecting foods that are naturally gluten free. But I am getting ill any way. The extent to which I am getting ill tells me it is cross contamination issues, not food actually containing gluten. I should be able to eat a baked sweet potato and put natural bacon bits on it with no problem. I should be able to eat only plain vegetables and chopped egg with no problem. Yet I was ill the next day after such a meal twice. I used to be able to eat at you Boca location and never have a problem. The Boynton Beach location was very dirty and sloppy when it first started. It looks cleaner now which is why I tried going back to it. But something is very wrong with the food handling process if I am getting illl eating there. You have so many products that are naturally gluten free it should be a no brainer. But hands that are touching gluten are also touching that non gluten items, thus making them unsafe for many of your patrons to safely eat. And when celiacs eat out, they bring the friends and family with them. So it means that you have lost my business and that of those who would normally go out with me as well.
