Gameday Grub: 5 Recipe Hacks that Score

The smell of spicy buffalo wings and jalapeño poppers is in the air, and the energy of competition around the living-room TV set is palpable. Football season is officially here! Before watching the next big game, don’t rely on the standard pre-game “meals” your friends serve at their gameday parties (c’mon, chips are not a real food group!). Instead, fuel up on wholesome and filling tail-gate or football party grub at Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes so you can root for your team from kickoff to the final whistle. Here’s a breakdown of fan recipes from Instagram and the submissions from our Design Your Own Delicious contest that will make your stomach do a victory dance before your next big game.

Loaded Potato Skins

Drop the pigskin and try this Loaded Potato Skin recipe from @migueldpark. Add one ladle of Deep Kettle House Chili to your baked potato and a sprinkling of cheddar cheese. Wrap the creation back up in the tinfoil (quickly) so the cheese melts on top for extra-gooey goodness. Top it off with a dollop of sour cream, bacon bits and green onions to drive this dish into the end zone.

Double Team Mac & Cheese

Mac & Cheese is a gameday staple (at least on our team!). @mssasha’s recipe calls for bacon bits, chives and even a little more shredded cheddar to top it off (is there such a thing as too much cheese? Not for this dish!). Ready for a play-fake recipe? @jmc1904  gets this deceptively delicious game-plan from his coach (aka his son) who stirs in a spoonful of Deep Kettle House Chili, adds cheddar cheese, chopped onions and bacon to his Mac & Cheese. Is it chili? Is it Mac & Cheese? It doesn’t really matter!

Breakfast of Champions

@caseyboo11 highlights how to kickoff Football Sunday with breakfast at Souplantation/SweetTomatoes. Before those early games, fuel up with breakfast treats like a Sweet Pepper & Sausage Egg Breakfast Burritos or Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits with Frosting (victory never tasted so sweet!) Be sure to check online to see if your local location will be open before next week’s coin toss.

Football Field Greens Salad

Michelle P.’s Football Field Greens Salad sure boasts an impressive lineup of veggies! Boost your body’s defensive line with a bit hit of nutrients from our salad bar.

Caramel-Bacon Blitz Sundae

Don’t make the rookie mistake of skipping out on dessert! Shayna R.  adds caramel sauce, toffee bits and bacon bits from our baked potato bar to a bowl of vanilla soft serve to create her Caramel-Bacon Blitz Sundae. This sweet and savory treat will make your stomach smile – no matter which team wins the game!

These 5 recipes score a touchdown in our playbook. Give them a try, and if you have some winning combos, post them on Instagram and tag with @Souplantation or #SweetTomatoes so we can  try whipping them up!
