“Meet the Watermelon Farmer” Experience is Coming to San Diego!

Arthur Saikhon, a third generation watermelon farmer and owner of Saikhon Company, in Brawley, CA, will be meeting and answering questions diners have at the “Meet the Watermelon Farmer” experience event in San Diego’s Mira Mesa Souplantation restaurant Arthur will be giving away free watermelons from his farm Thursday, June 16, beginning at 4:30 p.m., while supplies last.

Arthur is one of several farmers who supply Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. with farm-to-table fresh watermelons for its Souplantation restaurants.

Arthur grows seedless watermelons on 350 acres of his farmland near Brawley and Bakersfield, CA. He joined his father in 1986 to start the Saikhon Company and now grows approximately 10,000 tons of watermelon each season. Watermelon is available at Southern California Souplantation’s throughout the month of June.

Arthur is a part of two national watermelon associations, the National Watermelon Association (NWA) and the National Watermelon Promotion Board (NWPB).  As part of the Auction Load Committee for the NWA, Arthur donates watermelon loads for the annual NWA auction. Money generated from the auction supports the industry’s production research needs through scientific grants to numerous universities and other organizations each year.
