SWEET TOMATOES HELPS JOPLIN TORNADO VICTIMS

Sweet Tomatoes hosts Fundraiser and Personal Hygiene Drive for Joplin Tornado Victims

On Tuesday, June 7, the Kansas and Missouri Sweet Tomatoes locations will be hosting an all-day fundraiser to benefit the American Red Cross, Joplin tornado victims. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation’s blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.

Sweet Tomatoes will also be kicking off a two week personal hygiene drive for the tornado victims. Because of the loss of many homes in Joplin and lack of space, the American Red Cross is in need of personal hygiene items to provide to tornado victims. Sweet Tomatoes will be collecting items from June 7 – June 21. Preferred personal hygiene items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, body soap, wipes, shavers and shaving cream.

The Sweet Tomatoes locations in Kansas and Missouri will donate 10 percent of lunch and dinner sales for the entire day on June 7 to the American Red Cross Greater Ozarks Regional Chapter located in Joplin. Sweet Tomatoes has been an on-going partner with the American Red Cross and has raised over $40,000 for the organization during the past three years.  Sweet Tomatoes is involved with sponsoring events and fundraisers for the American Red Cross, providing food donations and is an on-going emergency food vendor in select regions.

Sweet Tomatoes provides a healthy salad bar full of fresh, seasonal vegetables and tossed salads, made-from-scratch soups, hand-crafted muffins, focaccia and breads and tasty desserts. 1. I think it is great companies help out the community!!! Unfortuately you are only as good as your employees. I had a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE at the LAS VEGAS, NEVADA location on W. Flamingo last night and I WILL NOT GO THERE AGAIN! The cashier and the manager were very rude and acted like they didn’t even need you at their store. Funny, the restaurant WAS NOT BUSY at all, lots of tables open and they both had ATTITUDES when I went to pay . Not friendly, nice or what I am used to at this location. I think they need to go back and take CLASSES on how to work with customers OR GET OUT of the restaurant business.
I walked from the restaurant and preferred to go home and eat cereal instead they were so rude!!!

  2. I’m not sure what an experience in Las Vegas has to do with the Personal Care Drive for tornado victims in Missouri. Annual personal care item drives should be in every major city. St. Louis Girl Scouts is the only large city organization (that I know of) that does this annually. Food stamps do not cover these items and it is a great boon to the pantries and shelters. Kudos to Operation Food Search for helping store these items for communities that participate in this effort but don’t have a localized collection site. Scouting for Food is nation-wide and this should be too! Kudos to Sweet tomatoes for doing this at the 3 locations. You can connect with a great website http://www.rebuildjoplin.org to plug into needs.
